Hornby is of course still around today and many people are still into the stuff, whilst it may not be as popular as it once was they still have their diehard fans.
It is of course the leading brand of model railway here in the UK and the idea came forward by Frank Hornby in 1901. The first clockwork train came into play in 1920, not long after, in 1928 was the first 00 gauge train.
The great thing about these range of trains is that they appeal to both adults and children, especially now that ranges such as Thomas and Friends has been released under the Hornby name. If children wanted to get into the train set hobby then they would actually have to buy the Harry Potter set and this is really only for the older kids. (I think I have this somewhere in the loft actually). There were a lack of children playing with things like this which means that as soon as the older hobbyists all died out there would be no need for the brand to exist, a very clever move indeed by Hornby, they certainly are not stupid.
Don't Just Set Up On The Floor
With Hornby you actually need to have a fairly big track layout to do it justice, a circle on the ground is no fun at all. If you want to do it right you are going to need to get more than one of those Hornby trains and mix it in with a bit of scenery ,a whole track and of course you could even throw in some RC models like the RC helicopter to really show off what you can do.
So in the end I think it is safe to say that yes people do remember Hornby and that they remember it very well indeed as it is still going very strong today.
